Guided by Our Values

This resource page is an extension of the values that shape Shared Ground. We believe that unity, equity, and understanding are not just ideas; they are responsibilities. By offering confidential, accessible support for undocumented students and families, we put these values into practice. Every resource here is chosen to protect dignity, expand opportunity, and help young people feel seen and supported, no matter their background or status.

KNOW your rights!

Your Rights in School

Every student has the right to attend public school, regardless of immigration status. Schools cannot ask for your citizenship, social security number, or proof of legal status. You have the right to learn, to feel safe, and to access school services without fear of being reported.

Your Rights if Approached by Immigration Enforcement

You have the right to remain silent, the right to refuse consent to a search, and the right to ask for a lawyer. You do not have to open the door unless officers show a warrant signed by a judge. You can say, “I do not want to answer questions.” Staying calm and knowing these rights can help protect you and your family.

Your Rights in Public Spaces

You have the right to move through public spaces, like parks, stores, and sidewalks, without being questioned about your status. You do not have to share personal information with anyone who is not law enforcement, and even then, you still have rights. You can ask, “Am I free to go?” and walk away if the answer is yes.
